President Bola Tinubu has called on governors of the six North-East states to strengthen efforts aimed at tackling terrorism, banditry and other security threats confronting the region, stressing that greater collaboration is required to achieve lasting peace and development.
The President appealed on Thursday while receiving a delegation of political leaders, governors and senior government officials from Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Addressing the delegation, Tinubu emphasised that although the Federal Government had continued to invest heavily in security operations across the country, state governments also have a critical role to play in complementing federal efforts to restore stability in the North-East.
He urged the governors to remain proactive in supporting security agencies, strengthening local intelligence gathering, and implementing programmes that would address the underlying causes of insecurity, including youth unemployment and poverty.
The President also expressed optimism about Nigeria’s economic outlook, declaring that the country had overcome its most difficult economic challenges and was now on a path to sustained growth and prosperity.
According to him, ongoing economic reforms are beginning to yield positive results, placing Nigeria in what he described as a “golden age” of opportunities. Tinubu maintained that his administration remains committed to implementing policies that would stimulate investment, create jobs, and improve the standard of living for Nigerians.
The meeting brought together influential political stakeholders from the North-East, including elected officials and senior government representatives, who used the visit to reaffirm their support for the administration.
Presidency officials familiar with the meeting disclosed that the visit also served as a formal expression of appreciation to the President following his decision to retain Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election.
The North-East delegation reportedly commended Tinubu for the confidence reposed in Shettima, describing the decision as a demonstration of trust in the region’s leadership and its continued role in national governance.
