A Nigerian woman, Habibat Salawudeen Ihiovi-Jack, is attempting to set a new Guinness World Record by reading the Holy Bible continuously for 144 hours in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The record attempt, tagged “144 Hours in the World,” began on June 22 at Novotel, Port Harcourt, and is scheduled to end on July 2, in line with Guinness World Records guidelines.

Organisers say Habibat has already surpassed the 100-hour mark, entering the final phase of the endurance challenge. Under the rules, participants are required to read aloud continuously, with only limited breaks allowed for essential needs.

Habibat, a member of The Summit Bible Church, says the initiative is driven by her desire to encourage deeper engagement with the Bible and inspire believers through God’s Word.

Her Senior Pastor, Dr Andy Osakwe of Summit Bible Churches Worldwide, described the attempt as more than a quest for a world record, saying it is a spiritual project aimed at promoting the importance of scripture.

The challenge has attracted support from family, friends, church members and followers on social media, adding to the growing number of Guinness World Record attempts by Nigerians.

The current record for the longest marathon reading aloud is held by Nigerian Samson Ajao, who was recognised by Guinness World Records in 2024 after reading continuously for 215 hours.
