Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has approved the construction of a new home for the family of a deceased Woman Inspector and undertaken the sponsorship of her daughter’s university education through graduation as part of efforts to support bereaved families of security personnel and vulnerable citizens.
The State Commissioner for Information, Hon. Aniekan Umanah, disclosed this on Tuesday while briefing journalists in Uyo, describing the intervention as a reflection of the Governor’s commitment to compassionate governance and the welfare of the people.
According to Umanah, the decision followed recommendations by the Governor’s Chief Security Officer, CSP Besta Sini, who brought the family’s situation and other urgent humanitarian cases to the attention of the government.

Beyond the construction of a new house, Governor Eno also approved full sponsorship of the educational expenses of the deceased officer’s last daughter from her current 300-level studies until graduation.
The Commissioner further revealed that the Governor approved ₦10 million to support burial arrangements and facilitate the purchase of land for the family, providing additional relief to the bereaved household.
In a separate intervention, Governor Eno approved ₦2 million as welfare support for the family of the late Sergeant Friday to help cushion the effects of their loss.
Umanah also disclosed that the Governor personally provided ₦8.5 million for the surgical treatment of a police officer requiring urgent medical attention.
He explained that the approvals form part of a broader humanitarian support programme covering medical assistance, burial support, welfare packages and emergency interventions for citizens and security personnel across the state.
“The Governor has consistently demonstrated that governance is not only about infrastructure and economic development but also about touching lives, restoring hope and standing with people during their most difficult moments,” Umanah said.
The Commissioner noted that records indicate that about 98 per cent of beneficiaries of the humanitarian interventions are Akwa Ibom indigenes, underscoring the administration’s commitment to improving the welfare and socio-economic wellbeing of residents.
He said the interventions align with Governor Eno’s ARISE Agenda and vision of building a compassionate and inclusive society where government remains responsive to the needs of the vulnerable.

According to him, the support packages have continued to provide relief to affected families, strengthen public confidence in government and boost the morale of security personnel serving in the state.
Umanah assured that the administration would sustain its people-centred approach to governance and continue to respond swiftly to humanitarian challenges across the state.
“The Governor remains committed to ensuring that no family is abandoned in moments of grief, hardship or medical distress. These interventions reflect his belief that governance must ultimately improve lives and put people first,” he said.
