The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed July 11, 2026, as the deadline for political parties to submit the particulars of their candidates for the 2027 general elections.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja during the Commission’s Second Quarterly Consultative Meeting with leaders of registered political parties. According to Amupitan, the Commission will commence the candidate nomination process on June 26, 2026, when it issues access codes to authorised national officers of each political party. The officers will be responsible for uploading the biodata and other required information of their party nominees through INEC’s online nomination portal.

He further announced that political parties will gain access to the dedicated nomination portal on June 27, 2026, to begin the submission process.

The INEC chairman urged political parties to strictly adhere to the timetable and ensure that all nominations are completed before the July 11 deadline to avoid complications.

The consultative meeting, attended by leaders of registered political parties, formed part of INEC’s preparations for the 2027 general elections and efforts to strengthen collaboration with political stakeholders.

The electoral body reiterated its commitment to conducting a transparent and credible electoral process, emphasizing the importance of compliance with established guidelines and timelines.

With the opening of the nomination portal and the release of access codes, political parties are expected to conclude their internal processes and upload the details of their candidates within the stipulated period.
