President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday inaugurated the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) zonal office in Ado Ekiti, praising the agency for its achievements in the fight against corruption and financial crimes.

The President, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, commissioned the new office complex, which will serve Ekiti and Ondo states. He described the EFCC as a critical institution in safeguarding Nigeria’s economy and national security.

In his remarks, he highlighted several of the commission’s recent achievements, including the prosecution of high-profile corruption cases, the disruption of cybercrime networks, and efforts that contributed to Nigeria’s removal from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list.

According to him, the commission’s crackdown on financial crimes and fraudulent schemes has strengthened investor confidence and supported the Federal Government’s economic reform agenda.

He also noted that assets recovered by the EFCC have been deployed to support key social intervention programmes, including the Students’ Loan Scheme and the Consumer Credit Scheme.

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, said the state government provided the land for the project as part of its commitment to transparency, accountability and intergovernmental cooperation. He added that the government also donated a 220KVA standby generator to ensure uninterrupted power supply at the facility.

Oyebanji expressed confidence that the new office would improve access to justice for victims of financial crimes in Ekiti and Ondo states by bringing EFCC services closer to the people.

EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede thanked President Tinubu for supporting the project and reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to professionalism and the rule of law.

He said the establishment of the zonal office would strengthen the agency’s enforcement capacity in the region and enhance efforts against cybercrime, illegal mining and other economic crimes.

Olukoyede described corruption as a major threat to national development and pledged that the EFCC would remain relentless in its efforts to combat the menace.

He also appealed to residents and stakeholders in Ekiti and Ondo states to support the commission by providing useful information that would aid its operations.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, former Ekiti State Governor Segun Oni, Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Olufemi Oluyede and other government officials.
