The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Newton Isokpehi, following a viral video in which he was seen threatening violence and engaging in conduct described as unprofessional.
This was disclosed in a press briefing issued on Friday by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, DCP Ngozi Ezeabata.
According to the statement, the Command acted swiftly after the video surfaced on social media, identifying and taking the officer into custody.

The Police said internal disciplinary proceedings have since been activated against the officer in line with the ethical standards and disciplinary procedures of the Nigeria Police Force.
As part of ongoing investigations, the Command also confirmed that the officer has been subjected to a drug test to determine the circumstances surrounding his conduct.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, condemned the officer’s behaviour, describing it as unacceptable and contrary to the values of the Nigeria Police Force.
He reiterated that the Force would not tolerate misconduct, abuse of office, incitement, or any action capable of undermining public confidence in law enforcement.
The Command assured residents of Anambra State and the general public that the outcome of the disciplinary process would be made public, adding that any officer found culpable would face appropriate sanctions in accordance with police regulations.

It further urged officers and men of the Command to remain professional and disciplined in the discharge of their duties, especially in an era of heightened public scrutiny.
The Police also appreciated members of the public, civil society organisations, and social media users for providing credible information that assists in improving accountability and service delivery.
Residents were encouraged to continue reporting activities capable of threatening public peace and security.
