Vice President Kashim Shettima has said Nigeria is ready to deepen bilateral relations with the Republic of Poland in critical sectors of the economy, including defence cooperation, digital economy and agriculture.
Shettima stated this on Thursday during a courtesy visit by Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Affairs, Dr Krzysztof Gawkowski, to the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The Vice President said the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had implemented key economic reforms aimed at unlocking Nigeria’s economic potential and attracting investment.
According to him, the Federal Government had liberalised the foreign exchange market, removed fuel subsidy and harmonised tax laws to create a more business-friendly environment.
“Since assumption of office over two years ago, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has unlocked the full potential of the Nigerian economy,” Shettima said.

“We have liberalised the foreign exchange market; we have removed subsidy on petroleum products; we have harmonised our tax laws such that companies coming into Nigeria will not be overtaxed.”
He noted that Poland has demonstrated strong capacity in areas such as shipbuilding, maritime economy, defence industries and digital technology, adding that both countries stand to benefit from closer cooperation.
“There is room for enhanced mutually beneficial business relations between Nigeria and Poland. We believe in a truly beneficial relationship rather than reliance on aid,” the Vice President added.
Shettima also described Poland as one of the most progressive and strategic countries in Europe and assured the Polish delegation of Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening ties.
Earlier, Gawkowski described Nigeria as Poland’s most strategic partner in Africa, citing the country’s demographic strength and technological potential.
He said the visit was aimed at opening a new phase of cooperation between both countries, particularly in the areas of economy, innovation and digitalisation.

The Polish official expressed optimism that stronger collaboration would promote long-term development and mutually beneficial partnerships between Nigeria and Poland.
