The Bayelsa State Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy has formally welcomed its new Permanent Secretary, Madam Poweidei Otrofanowei, marking a transition expected to strengthen administrative coordination and accelerate ongoing reforms in the sector.

Her assumption of duty was received at the Ministry headquarters by the Commissioner for Marine and Blue Economy, Dr Mrs. Faith Izibenua Zibs-Godwin, who described the posting as timely and strategic to the Ministry’s development agenda.

Dr Zibs-Godwin assured the new Permanent Secretary of a smooth working relationship and full institutional support, reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to advancing Bayelsa’s blue economy objectives through effective collaboration and policy implementation.

In her response, Madam Otrofanowei expressed appreciation to the State Government and the Office of the Head of Service for the confidence reposed in her, pledging to work closely with management and staff to strengthen systems and improve service delivery.

She noted that her priority would be to consolidate ongoing programmes, support personnel, and contribute meaningfully to the growth of the state’s marine and blue economy initiatives.

Earlier, the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr Wakedei Davidson Ere, who had been overseeing the office of the Permanent Secretary, formally welcomed her on behalf of staff and management.

He commended the steady progress recorded under the outgoing administration and expressed confidence that the momentum would be sustained under the new leadership.

Mr Ere assured the Permanent Secretary of the workforce’s cooperation in ensuring a seamless transition and continued institutional stability.

Madam Otrofanowei takes over from Engr. Jonjon Olali Samuel, the pioneer accounting officer of the Ministry, whose tenure ended in April 2026.

Until her redeployment, she served as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Special Duties (East), where she was noted for her administrative competence and commitment to public service delivery.
