Troops of the Nigerian Army under Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have arrested a suspected bandit allegedly posing as a soldier during an operation in Kaduna State.

The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Ibrahim Adamu, was apprehended on May 8, 2026, during a snap roadblock mounted by troops of 2 Battalion at Damari in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area.

According to the Army, Adamu was intercepted while riding a motorcycle through the checkpoint.

A search conducted on the suspect reportedly led to the recovery of an AK-47 magazine, three mobile phones, suspected Indian hemp and other items.

Military authorities said preliminary analysis of the suspect’s mobile phones uncovered photographs allegedly showing him dressed in military camouflage and carrying a PKT machine gun alongside other suspected bandits.

In a statement, the Army said the suspect and the recovered items remain in military custody pending further investigation.

The military described the arrest as part of ongoing efforts by Operation FANSAN YAMMA to curb banditry and other criminal activities across the North-West region.

According to the Army, the operation demonstrates its “relentless commitment to denying criminal elements freedom of action” in the region.
