The Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Bukola Olopade, has praised Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, for her steadfast support toward the development of women’s sports across the country.

Olopade gave the commendation on Wednesday when the First Lady received members of Nigeria’s victorious women’s wrestling team following their impressive performance at the recently concluded African Wrestling Championships.

The Nigerian female wrestlers reaffirmed their dominance on the continent after securing a record-extending 15th African title in Egypt, finishing the tournament with eight gold medals and two silver medals.

Speaking during the reception, the NSC boss attributed the sustained success of Nigerian women athletes at continental and international competitions to the continuous encouragement and backing from the First Lady.

Olopade described Senator Tinubu as a strong advocate for women’s participation in sports, particularly in wrestling, noting that her commitment has inspired many young female athletes to pursue their dreams.

“The First Lady’s special commitment to Nigerian sports has played a major role in the continued success of the country’s women athletes at both continental and global competitions,” Olopade said.

“She has been a mother figure to many of us, dedicating her time, attention, and resources to ensure that every girl-child involved in sports is allowed to excel.”
