Nearly seven years after she was reported missing, authorities in the United States have confirmed that human remains discovered in a Cleveland property belong to Paige Coffey, bringing a tragic development to a case that had remained unresolved since 2019.
The Bratenahl Police Department announced on April 29 that the remains, recovered earlier in the month, were positively identified as Coffey.
According to the Cleveland Police Department, the discovery was made on April 17 inside a garage at a previously vacant home that was being cleared for new occupants.
Records from the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office indicated that the remains were found in a garbage bag. However, officials say the cause and manner of death have not yet been determined, as investigations continue.
Coffey was last seen on May 7, 2019, in the Steelyard Commons area of Cleveland. Concern grew among her relatives after they lost contact in late April that year, with her mother, Trinettea Williamson, formally reporting her missing on May 17.
The case gained wider attention after being featured in the Dateline NBC “Missing in America” series in July 2025. Family members consistently maintained that her disappearance was out of character, describing her as closely connected to loved ones.
In the months following her disappearance, the family also sought assistance from the Cleveland Family Centre for Missing Children and Adults, which provides advocacy and support for families of missing persons.
Following the confirmation of her death, a statement shared on behalf of the family expressed grief and requested privacy, while also appreciating public support in keeping her case visible over the years.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation, which is collaborating with local authorities, reiterated that the case remains active. In a statement, the agency extended condolences to Coffey’s family and emphasised its commitment to identifying and prosecuting those responsible.
Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward as efforts continue to uncover the circumstances surrounding her death.
