The Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Adolphus Wabara, has confirmed that the BoT has taken over the administrative leadership of the party following a Supreme Court judgment that nullified its National Working Committee (NWC).
Speaking at the opening of the party’s 84th BoT meeting on Sunday in Abuja, Wabara said the decision was in line with the 2017 amended constitution of the PDP and was necessary to avert a leadership vacuum after the apex court invalidated the 2025 National Convention that produced the Kabiru Turaki-led NWC.
The Supreme Court ruling, delivered on April 30, 2026, also upheld the suspension of key party officials involved in organising a parallel convention in Abuja, effectively nullifying its outcome.

Wabara stated that the BoT’s swift intervention had stabilised the party at a critical moment, adding that the PDP has continued to receive widespread support from Nigerians who remain confident in its ability to overcome internal challenges.
He alleged that the party’s recent crisis stemmed from internal sabotage by individuals working in collaboration with external forces, including elements linked to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), to weaken the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Despite the challenges, the BoT chairman expressed optimism about the party’s future, insisting that the PDP remains resilient and united.
“The PDP will never surrender to renegades and political brigands. We have weathered the storm and a brighter future lies ahead,” Wabara said.
He also announced that the party has secured the required two-thirds support of National Executive Committee (NEC) members to convene its 103rd NEC meeting scheduled for Monday, May 4, 2026, with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) duly notified.
The upcoming NEC meeting is expected to take key decisions aimed at repositioning the party and restoring stability following months of internal disputes.

Wabara called on party leaders and stakeholders to prioritise unity and reconciliation, emphasising the BoT’s role as the conscience of the party in guiding it through the current transition.
The PDP, Nigeria’s main opposition party, is seeking to rebuild and strengthen its structures as it prepares for the 2027 general elections.
