The Lagos State Government has denied reports claiming that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was asked to resign from office on health grounds, describing the allegation as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, said the reports widely circulated on social media and attributed to an online platform were “false in their entirety” and should be disregarded by the public.

Akosile maintained that the governor remains in “good health and sound mind,” and continues to carry out his official duties without any impediment. He stressed that at no point was the governor asked to step down, dismissing the claims as part of a pattern of misinformation.
The controversy followed an earlier report alleging that Babajide Sanwo-Olu had been directed to resign to allow his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, to assume office. However, the Lagos government insisted there was no truth to the claim and urged residents to ignore what it termed “fake news.”
Providing further context, the governor’s aide disclosed that the deputy governor had recently paid a routine visit to Sanwo-Olu, which he said was misinterpreted in some quarters. According to him, the meeting was cordial and consistent with official engagements within the administration.
The state government reiterated its commitment to transparency, urging the public and media organisations to verify information before dissemination, particularly on sensitive political matters.

Sanwo-Olu, who has served as governor since 2019, remains actively engaged in governance, with officials emphasising that there has been no disruption to leadership or administration in the state.
