Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called for stronger unity of purpose among stakeholders in the global health community, saying the achievement of a malaria-free world depends on collective commitment and sustained action.
In a message to mark the 2026 World Malaria Day, themed “United Against Malaria,” the First Lady reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to eliminating the disease and safeguarding public health across all communities.
She stressed that defeating malaria requires more than goodwill, noting that sustained collaboration, increased domestic financing, and innovative solutions remain critical to overcoming persistent challenges such as drug resistance and gaps in healthcare delivery.
According to her, “achieving a malaria-free world begins with having a people united in purpose,” underscoring the need for coordinated efforts between governments, development partners, and local communities.
Tinubu also emphasised the importance of strengthening prevention strategies, expanding access to life-saving interventions, and ensuring equitable distribution of malaria prevention and treatment tools, particularly to vulnerable populations in rural and underserved areas.
She reiterated that no community should be left behind in the global fight against malaria, urging stakeholders to intensify awareness campaigns and support health systems to improve response and resilience.
According to her, malaria remains one of the leading causes of illness and death in Nigeria, particularly among children under five and pregnant women, despite ongoing national and international interventions and caution families to take their health seriously and keep their environment clean.
