The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Rivers State has refuted claims linking it to a building displaying “Renewed Hope” signages, describing the reports circulating on social media as false and misleading.

The Commission, in a statement issued by its Administrative Secretary, Dr. (Mrs.) Angela I. Ebhodaghe, said the building in question is not an INEC facility and has no affiliation with its operations in the state.

The clarification follows the circulation of a photograph online suggesting that the structure, which bears banners associated with the Renewed Hope Movement, belongs to INEC.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the said building does not belong to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Rivers State, neither does our office have such signages on any part of its premises,” the statement said.

INEC explained that the confusion likely arose due to the proximity of the building to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), which shares a boundary with the structure.

The Commission expressed concern over the spread of misinformation, warning that such claims have the potential to erode public trust and undermine national unity.

It urged members of the public and media practitioners to verify information through credible and official sources before dissemination.

Reiterating its constitutional role, INEC emphasized its neutrality as an electoral umpire, assuring Nigerians of its continued commitment to independence, transparency, and the integrity of the electoral process.
