The Nigeria Police Force Zone 7 Headquarters in Abuja has launched an investigation into allegations of extortion involving personnel of its Cybercrime Section following a viral social media post.
In a statement issued by the Zone’s Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Halima, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Zone, Victor Olaiya, confirmed that a comprehensive probe has been ordered to ascertain the veracity of the claims and identify any officers involved.
The command clarified that no formal complaint had been submitted to its leadership prior to the circulation of the allegations online. Nonetheless, it stressed that the matter is being treated with seriousness in line with its mandate to uphold discipline and professionalism.
