The Nigerian Army has reaffirmed that its troops successfully rescued 31 worshippers abducted during the recent attack on Ariko community, dismissing claims that dispute the official account of the rescue operation.
In a statement responding to remarks attributed to Dr. JD Ariko, who questioned the Army’s earlier report, military authorities said they understand the concerns and emotional reactions from families affected by the incident, noting that such responses are expected following traumatic events.

According to the Army Headquarters, troops responded swiftly after receiving distress calls from the community. The soldiers reportedly engaged the attackers and pursued them as they attempted to flee with their captives.
Military officials explained that the pressure mounted by the pursuing troops forced the assailants described as terrorists to abandon some of the abducted worshippers, thereby preventing what could have resulted in a much larger abduction.
“The swift intervention of our troops disrupted the attackers and led to the rescue of 31 victims,” the statement noted.
The Army further assured that operations are ongoing to track down the fleeing attackers and rescue other victims believed to have been taken into nearby forests.

Authorities emphasized that security forces remain committed to restoring safety in the area and ensuring that those responsible for the attack are brought to justice.
