Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called for stronger global collaboration, investment in health systems and support for scientific research to build a healthier and more resilient world.

In a message to mark the 2026 World Health Day, observed globally on April 7, the First Lady emphasized the importance of science-driven solutions and collective action in addressing global health challenges.

The 2026 World Health Day is themed “Together for Health: Stand with Science.”

Mrs Tinubu noted that meaningful progress in healthcare depends largely on innovation and sustained collaboration among nations, institutions and stakeholders across different sectors.

According to her, scientific partnerships have historically played a vital role in helping humanity overcome numerous health challenges and continue to guide efforts toward healthier living.

She stressed that strengthening health systems and supporting research and innovation are essential steps toward improving global health outcomes.

The First Lady also highlighted the significance of the “One Health” approach, which recognises the strong connection between the health of people, animals, plants and the environment.

She said understanding and protecting these interconnections is crucial to preventing diseases, improving public health and ensuring sustainable development.

Mrs Tinubu therefore urged governments, organisations and individuals to work together in promoting scientific knowledge, investing in resilient health systems and building partnerships that can support healthier communities around the world.

World Health Day is celebrated annually by the World Health Organization (WHO) to raise awareness about key global health issues and mobilize action to improve public health.
