The Akwa Ibom State Civil Service Commission has dismissed allegations of bias, maltreatment and exclusion in its ongoing recruitment exercise, describing the claims as misleading and unfounded.

In a statement issued on April 2, 2026, the Chairman of the Commission, Mrs. Ekerebong Umoh, said the recruitment process strictly follows the established “Schemes of Service,” which outline qualifications, roles, and placement criteria for prospective employees.

She stressed that all appointments are based on merit, including academic qualifications, field of study, and other stipulated requirements, adding that no candidate is unfairly treated or sidelined.

Addressing concerns raised by some applicants, particularly graduates of Efik and Ibibio language studies, the Commission clarified that while such disciplines are recognised and valued, their application must align with relevant roles within government operations.

The Commission explained that inclusivity does not translate to indiscriminate placement but rather ensuring that candidates are assigned positions that match their qualifications and competence for effective service delivery.

Reacting to reports of alleged discrimination during interview sessions, the Commission described such claims as a distortion of facts, maintaining that all candidates were treated with fairness and professionalism in line with civil service regulations.

It advised members of the public to refrain from spreading unverified information and encouraged individuals with genuine complaints to present credible evidence for proper review, noting that anonymous allegations often lack substance for investigation.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, equity, and accountability, stating that the recruitment exercise is aimed at strengthening the state civil service by engaging competent individuals for the benefit of Akwa Ibom and its citizens.
