Former President Goodluck Jonathan has called on Nigerians to remain hopeful and united, urging both citizens and leaders to embrace faith, sacrifice, and service as the nation navigates current challenges.
In his 2026 Easter message to Christians in Nigeria and around the world, Jonathan reflected on the significance of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, describing it as the foundation of the Christian faith and a symbol of hope and redemption for humanity.
“As we commemorate the death and resurrection of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, let us reflect on God’s boundless love for mankind and His gifts of redemption and salvation,” he said.
Jonathan noted that Easter represents core values such as faith, sacrifice, and service, which he said are essential not only to Christianity but also to nation-building.
Addressing Nigerians, the former president acknowledged the country’s present difficulties but expressed optimism about its future.
“Our country currently faces many challenges. We have been through hard times before, and we came through. Do not give up. Keep faith with Nigeria,” he stated.
He further urged leaders at all levels to emulate the selfless example of Christ by putting the interests of the people above personal gains.
“True leadership demands that we live above personal interest and serve with sacrifice, humility, and sincerity. This way, we can build a peaceful and prosperous country,” Jonathan added.
