A former Director-General of Media and Communications to ex-Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, Salihu Yakasai, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Yakasai announced his defection in a statement posted on his Facebook page on Monday, stating that the decision followed consultations with family, friends, and political associates.

“After consulting family, friends, and other political associates, we have decided to join the ADC – a new journey,” he said.

“I have already submitted my resignation letter from the APC and completed my registration with the ADC. Those interested in joining can register through the party’s platform and will receive their membership cards shortly.”

He expressed optimism about the party’s future, praying that the ADC would emerge as a platform for good governance and national development.

This marks another shift in Yakasai’s political trajectory. In 2022, he left the APC to join the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), under which he contested the 2023 Kano State governorship election, before later returning to the ruling party.

His latest defection comes amid growing momentum for the ADC, which has recently attracted several high-profile politicians, including nine senators who joined the party in mid-March 2026.

The development is seen as part of ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the ADC positioning itself as an emerging force within Nigeria’s opposition landscape.
