President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated renowned economist, banker, and philanthropist, Mr. Tony Onyemaechi Elumelu, on the occasion of his birthday.

Elumelu, who clocks a year older on March 22, is the Chairman of Heirs Holdings, United Bank for Africa (UBA), and Transcorp, as well as the founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described Elumelu as a leading figure in African business and a strong advocate for enterprise development across the continent.

Tinubu commended the business leader for his resilience, commitment to excellence, and dedication to the philosophy of Africapitalism, which promotes private sector-driven economic growth for Africa.

The President also praised Elumelu’s sustained investment in youth development through the Tony Elumelu Foundation. He noted that the foundation’s entrepreneurship programme has trained over 2.5 million young Africans across 54 countries and provided more than 24,000 entrepreneurs with non-refundable seed funding of $5,000 each.

“As Elumelu celebrates this special occasion, the President joins his family, friends, and associates in wishing him continued good health, strength, and greater success in his endeavours,” the statement read.

Elumelu is widely recognised for his role in shaping Africa’s financial and business landscape, as well as his commitment to empowering the next generation of entrepreneurs.
