The Coalition of Progressive Democratic Movements (COPDEM) has called on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria, as part of efforts to build a strong and nationally acceptable political platform.

The recommendation was contained in a communiqué issued after a joint National Executive Council meeting and strategy conference of COPDEM and ADC held in Abuja.

According to the coalition, zoning the ticket to the South aligns with Nigeria’s longstanding tradition of North–South power rotation, which it said has helped maintain political balance and stability in the country.

It added that such a move would enhance the party’s chances of building a broad-based coalition capable of winning power in the next general elections.

The group stressed that adopting the zoning principle would strengthen the party’s ability to mobilise support across key regions, noting that any credible political platform must reflect fairness, equity and inclusion in its leadership selection process.

Beyond zoning, COPDEM emphasised the need for a unifying national message anchored on justice, unity and shared values, while also calling for internal reforms within the ADC to improve its organisational strength.

It further noted that Nigeria’s current economic and security challenges require a new leadership direction driven by competence and credibility, urging opposition groups to work together to build a viable alternative capable of restoring public trust and delivering effective governance.
