Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State has criticized Governor Umo Eno over the continued delay in the actualization of the Ibom Deep Sea Port project, questioning his role during a recent trip to London with President Bola Tinubu.

In a press statement signed by its State Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ewa Okpo, the party expressed concern that despite the governor’s earlier assurances, there has been no visible progress on the project.

The PDP referenced the recent signing of a £746 million agreement between the Federal Government and financial partners to modernise the Apapa and Tin Can Island Ports in Lagos, noting that no similar commitment has been announced for Akwa Ibom.

According to the party, the development raises questions about the state government’s engagement with the Federal Government on the Ibom Deep Sea Port, which has long been projected as a key driver of economic growth in the region.

The opposition party also urged Governor Eno to clarify what benefits, if any, his engagement with the presidency has brought to the state, particularly in relation to the port project.

It argued that expanding port infrastructure to include the Ibom Deep Sea Port would help decongest existing ports and improve trade efficiency, especially for businesses in the South-South and South-East regions.

The PDP called on the governor to provide a clear update on efforts to advance the project and to demonstrate commitment to the economic interests of the state.
