POLICE ARREST SUSPECTED KIDNAPPER, RECOVER AK-47 RIFLE IN NASARAWA

Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper, recovered firearms during a raid on a criminal hideout in Keana Local Government Area of the state.

The operation, which took place at Gidan Akuya village, was carried out by operatives of the State Intelligence Department following credible intelligence on the activities of suspected kidnappers in the area.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Lafia, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, said the suspects attempted to flee upon sighting the operatives but were pursued by the police.

According to him, one suspect, Jibril Yunusa, 43, was arrested during the operation. A search of the hideout reportedly led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, an empty magazine and a locally fabricated rifle.

Nansel disclosed that the suspect allegedly confessed to involvement in several kidnapping incidents within the Keana and Awe axis, and has provided useful information to assist ongoing investigations.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed, has directed officers to intensify efforts to track down and apprehend other members of the gang who escaped during the raid.

The police command reaffirmed its commitment to tackling criminal activities and ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.

Residents were also urged to remain vigilant, support security agencies with credible information that could aid crime-fighting efforts.
