President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of 65 ambassadors-designate to various countries and international missions across the world.

The list comprises 31 non-career ambassadors and 34 career diplomats, whose nominations were earlier confirmed by the Senate in December 2025.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, several prominent political figures and technocrats were appointed as non-career ambassadors, including Senator Ita Enang, who was posted to South Africa, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, assigned to the Philippines, Reno Omokri to Mexico, Femi Fani-Kayode to Germany, and Jimoh Ibrahim, who will serve as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

Others on the list include Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, posted to China, Lateef Kayode Are to the United States, and Aminu Dalhatu, who has been designated as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.

In the career category, experienced diplomats were posted to strategic missions including Amb. Abdussalam Habu Zayyad to Senegal, Amb. Shehu Ilu Barde to Ghana, Amb. Ibrahim Danlami to Kenya, Amb. Haidara Mohammed Idris to the Netherlands, and Amb. Ayeni Adebayo Emmanuel to Belgium.

The Presidency also disclosed that the United Kingdom has already granted agrément to Nigeria’s High Commissioner-designate, Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu, while France has approved the appointment of Ambassador Ayo Oke.

Agrément requests for the remaining 62 envoys have been forwarded to their respective host countries through diplomatic channels in line with international practice.

President Tinubu has further directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to commence the induction programme for the ambassadors-designate and High Commissioners immediately, preparatory to their deployment to their respective missions.

The appointments are part of the administration’s efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic presence globally and deepen bilateral and multilateral relations with key partner countries.
