Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has called for enhanced, timely intelligence sharing among anti-corruption and security agencies to strengthen the fight against economic and financial crimes as well as national insecurity.

Olukoyede made the call on Thursday through the Acting Zonal Director of the EFCC’s Ibadan Zonal Directorate, Assistant Commander of the EFCC (ACE I) Hauwa Garba Ringim, during a familiarization visit by the Acting Customs Area Controller of the Oyo/Osun Area Command, Deputy Comptroller of Customs (DC) Wale Adewole.

Welcoming the Customs Controller, Olukoyede noted that the visit was timely and would help reinforce the existing collaboration and synergy between the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) and the EFCC.

He stressed the need for adequate, prompt exchange of credible information and intelligence between both agencies to effectively combat economic and financial crimes, smuggling, and other threats to national security, while also boosting government revenue.

“Emphasis must be placed on adequate and timely information and intelligence sharing between the NCS and the EFCC that would help combat economic and financial crimes, insecurity, smuggling and generate revenue for the government,” he stated.

The EFCC Chairman also underscored the importance of inter-agency training and retraining of personnel, urging officers to uphold professionalism and integrity in the discharge of their duties. He assured the Customs Area Controller of the Commission’s readiness to support productive collaborations.

In his remarks, DC Adewole said his visit was part of efforts to engage key stakeholders and sister agencies in Oyo and Osun States following his appointment. He emphasized the importance of cooperation in safeguarding the financial and operational integrity of their respective mandates.

Adewole pledged the Customs Service’s commitment to sustained collaboration with the EFCC to ensure improved service delivery and enhanced enforcement outcomes.
