Brazilian President, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has said his country does not want a “new Cold War”, called for all nations to be treated equally.
Lula made the statement at a press conference on Sunday, marking the end of his three-day visit to India. He said Brazil seeks peaceful relations, job creation, and improvement in the lives of its citizens.
The Brazilian President said he expects to meet US President, Donald Trump in the first week of March. Trade, immigration, and investment are expected to feature on the agenda.
During his visit to India, Lula held talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The leaders signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding on critical minerals and rare earths, aiming to strengthen cooperation on mining, investment, and technology. Agreements were also reached on health, education, scientific research, and entrepreneurship.
Lula did not comment on last week’s US Supreme Court ruling that struck down several tariffs on Brazilian goods. However, he expressed confidence that Brazil-US relations will return to normal.
The Brazilian President also highlighted the importance of international peace and stability, saying the world needs cooperation rather than conflict.
