Voters at several polling units in Lugbe, Abuja, were left waiting on Saturday morning as officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) struggled to commence the voting process.
At the polling unit located at Aleyita Town Hall, INEC officials were present but had yet to complete preparations for the exercise as of the time of observation.
An official was seen tying a rope around the voting cubicle to secure it, suggesting logistical delays.
Accreditation of voters had not commenced, while residents who turned out early remained at the centre, waiting patiently for the process to begin.
A similar situation was observed at the Aleyita Primary School polling unit, where officials were on ground but voting had not started as of 10:40 a.m.
Voters were seen standing in queues in anticipation of accreditation and balloting.
Our correspondent also observed a heavy security presence at the centres, with several police officers deployed alongside operatives of the Nigeria Immigration Service to maintain order.
As of the time of filing this report, neither accreditation nor voting had begun at the affected polling units, and INEC had yet to provide an official explanation for the delay.
