The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has rewarded Mr. Solanke Taiwo, a primary school teacher at Ansa-Ur-Deen Main School I, Kemta Lawa, Abeokuta, with a brand new car for emerging as Nigeria’s Overall Best Primary School Teacher.
The presentation took place at the Governor’s Office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, in the presence of the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Abayomi Arigbagbu, and the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr. Oloko.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner described the award as validation of the state government’s sustained investment and reforms in the education sector under the Ogun State Education Revitalisation Agenda.
Professor Arigbagbu noted that the agenda, built on six pillars including curriculum development, school management, technology and innovation, infrastructure, funding, and welfare of students and teachers, has continued to yield tangible results.
He said Ogun State has consistently recorded back-to-back victories in the Best Teacher Award category, adding that Mr. Solanke had earlier won at the state level in October before clinching the overall national title in Abuja.
The Commissioner also highlighted the state’s strong performance in national competitions, including the JETS contest, where Ogun students reportedly won 18 out of 24 available awards in a particular year. He added that several states have shown interest in understudying Ogun’s model in Technical and Vocational Education and Training, as well as its digitization initiatives.
Governor Abiodun reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to rewarding excellence and motivating teachers to give their best. He assured that the state would continue to prioritise training and retraining of teachers through workshops, seminars, digital platforms and AI-powered teaching tools.
In his response, Mr. Solanke expressed gratitude to the Governor for creating a conducive environment for teaching and for learning. He described the recognition as a celebration of excellence, pledged to continue working hard to uphold Ogun State’s reputation for educational excellence.
He also encouraged fellow teachers to remain committed towards transforming learning outcomes and bringing out the best in every pupil under their care.
