The Ministry of Transport has launched a new initiative to register and brand dispatch and delivery motorcycle operators as part of efforts to improve security, accountability, and professionalism in the sector.
The programme targets the identification of operators, aims to curb misconduct and criminal activities linked to some dispatch riders. It introduces a restructured operating framework with enhanced oversight features.
Key components include:
Biometric registration of all dispatch and delivery riders in the state.
Mandatory branding of operational items such as reflective jackets, helmets, and delivery boxes with Akwa Ibom State identification marks.
Issuance of state-approved gear containing customised biometric identification numbers for easy recognition by security agencies and the public.
All riders, whether corporate or independent, are required to register at the Ministry of Transport Annex along Ikot Ekpene Road, Uyo. Registration must be supported by a guarantor’s letter from a village head, corporate organization, or senior public officer, depending on the operator’s status.
According to the ministry, the initiative aligns with broader government objectives to enhance public safety, strengthen transport regulation, and support the development agenda of Governor Umo Eno.
The Ministry of Transport has urged all stakeholders in the dispatch and delivery sector to comply fully with the new regulations and contribute to a safer, more organized transport environment across the state.
