The South South Development Commission (SSDC) has stepped up efforts to position the region’s youth to fully harness the opportunities presented by the digital economy.
As part of this drive, the Managing Director of the Commission, Ms. Usoro Akpabio, paid a courtesy visit to the Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, on Tuesday, February 10, 2027, at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.
The visit highlighted SSDC’s commitment to forging strategic partnerships aimed at expanding digital skills acquisition, promoting innovation, and ensuring inclusive access to Information and Communication Technology (ICT) opportunities for young people across the six states of the South-South region.
Ms. Akpabio underscored the region’s vast youth population and growing tech readiness, describing the South-South as strategically positioned to contribute significantly to Nigeria’s digital transformation and economic growth.
According to her, targeted collaboration with NITDA would help bridge digital skills gaps, open up employment pathways, and unlock innovation-driven development across the region.
She described NITDA as a pivotal national institution whose leadership in digital capacity building, ICT infrastructure development, and innovation promotion aligns closely with SSDC’s mandate to drive sustainable regional growth.
In his response, NITDA Director General, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, reaffirmed the agency’s readiness to collaborate with SSDC in deploying technology-driven programmes that support youth empowerment, foster innovation, promote economic diversification in the South-South.
