Operatives of Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested five suspects, recovered various substances suspected to be hard drugs during a pre-dawn raid on identified crime hubs in Eket Local Government Area.
The operation, carried out at about 4:00a.m. on Sunday, February 8, 2026, followed the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, to intensify raids on criminal hideouts and black spots across the state.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the operatives stormed an identified black spot in Eket, where three male and two female suspects were apprehended.
Those arrested were identified as Bassey Bassey, Blessing Joshua, Christiana Emmanuel, Alfa Bamese, and Chidiebere Ekwozor.
Items recovered during the raid include dried leaves suspected to be Colorado (locally known as colos), loud and liquid substances believed to be intoxicants, assorted Tramadol and Codeine tablets, Methamphetamine (popularly called Ice), an unknown black powder, an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card, the sum of ₦15,800, as well as several pictures and documents.
DSP John disclosed that the suspects are currently undergoing thorough investigation to determine their level of involvement and possible links to other criminal activities within and outside the area.
“One of the suspects, Alfa Bamese, claimed that the recovered pictures were meant for an assignment; however, investigations are ongoing to verify this claim,” the police spokesman stated.
