Police in Akwa Ibom have arrested a suspect in connection with a N4.2 million armed robbery, criminal conspiracy and ATM fraud case involving alleged use of juju within Uyo metropolis.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, who confirmed the incident in a statement issued today said the arrest followed a petition in which the complainant reported that she was attacked on 19th November, 2025 while attempting to board a commercial vehicle on Uruan Street, Uyo.

She said after entering the vehicle, the occupants diverted from the expected route, brandished a firearm, and robbed the victim of her Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card.

According to the Police, the suspects subjected the victim to juju-induced hypnosis and escorted her to her residence, where they ransacked the premises and carted away N900,000 in cash.

Subsequent investigations showed that the suspects also withdrew an additional N3.3 million from the victim’s bank account using her ATM card, transferring the funds into multiple bank accounts.

Acting on the report, the Police said operatives launched an intelligence-driven investigation, which led to the arrest of one Benjamin Patrick, of Number 29, Ebong Isong Street, Uyo, after it was discovered that his bank account and Point of Sale (POS) terminals were used to withdraw the stolen funds within a five-minute interval.

The victim has identified the suspect as one of the occupants of the vehicle used in perpetrating the crime.

The Police said efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate and recover the stolen money
