The Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), Kaduna, has announced that no fewer than 3,000 students will graduate during its 2nd, 3rd and 4th combined convocation ceremonies, with 305 of them earning first-class honours.
The Commandant of the institute, Air Vice Marshal A.K. Ademuwagun, disclosed this on Thursday during a press briefing at the Air Force Base in Kaduna ahead of the ceremonies scheduled for March 26 to March 28, 2026.
Ademuwagun described the milestone as a reflection of AFIT’s growing reputation as a centre of excellence in advanced technological education in Nigeria.
“This milestone reflects our growing reputation as a hub for advanced technological education and a centre of excellence in Nigeria,” he said.
He noted that the convocation activities would include induction ceremonies, exhibitions, project commissioning and a convocation lecture, all aimed at showcasing the institution’s commitment to innovation, research and practical solutions to national challenges.
Providing a breakdown, the commandant said 513 graduates are from Aerospace Engineering and Aircraft Engineering Technology programmes, which he described as critical to the Nigerian Air Force and the aviation sector.
Of the total number, 2,112 students were trained under programmes accredited by the National Universities Commission, 729 under the National Board for Technical Education, while 159 graduated from the School of Postgraduate Studies.
On academic performance, Ademuwagun revealed that 305 students graduated with first-class honours, while 146 recorded distinctions in NBTE programmes. He added that 51 postgraduate students also earned distinctions.
Highlighting top performers, he named Oluwole Winner Oluwatimilehin (Aerospace Engineering), Ahmed Amrah Abdulkadir (Cyber Security), and Babalola-Jacobs David Oluwasegun (Physics) as overall best graduating students, each with a near-perfect CGPA of 4.99.
Ademuwagun further announced plans to expand AFIT’s postgraduate programmes, increasing master’s degree offerings from two to 12 and postgraduate diplomas from four to 12 in the next academic session.
He also disclosed that all graduating students would receive their original certificates immediately after the convocation ceremony, a practice he said underscores the institute’s administrative efficiency.
Reaffirming AFIT’s unique status, he noted that the institution remains the only tripartite establishment in Nigeria combining military, polytechnic and university education.
As part of the convocation activities, engineering graduates of the Class of 2025 were also formally inducted into the profession by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).
