In a move that is raising eyebrows, fueling speculation; the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives paid high-profile visit to two of the state’s most influential former Governors today, signaling what many analysts believe could be a strategic positioning for the 2027 gubernatorial race.
This evening, the Deputy Speaker visited the immediate past Governor and Ambassador‑Designate Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu at his country home in Umuobiakwa, Obingwa Local Government Area. He congratulated Ikpeazu on his recent presidential appointment, presented his two-year legislative scorecard, a move seen by political watchers as a calculated effort to showcase achievements, gain the support of one of Abia’s most powerful figures.
Shortly after, he proceeded to Umuahia to meet former Governor Theodore Ahamefule Orji, who recently joined the All Progressives Congress. The Deputy Speaker commended Orji for this bold decision, describing it as alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda – a framework driving transformation across Nigeria.
While the Deputy Speaker did not openly declare gubernatorial intentions, the timing and significance of these visits have sparked intense speculation that he may be gearing up to challenge the incumbent Governor in 2027.
