Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has urged citizens and political actors to demonstrate maturity, shun actions capable of undermining the prevailing peace, unity, and social tolerance in the state as the 2027 political season approaches.
Governor Eno gave the charge during a Special Inter-Denominational New Year Thanksgiving Service held at the International Worship Centre, Uyo.
He commended political leaders in the state for the maturity displayed in handling sensitive political issues, noting that their conduct has continued to foster unity, progress across Akwa Ibom.
“I use this opportunity to thank all our leaders, particularly our political leaders, for allowing peace to reign in our state. This is the hallmark of maturity,” the Governor said.
“Now we can all wish and pray that our state will remain peaceful. I am sure everyone has enjoyed this atmosphere of peace. You can feel it, you can move freely across the state, this atmosphere of peace shall continue throughout the year.”
Cautioning against actions that could disrupt the existing harmony; Governor Eno encouraged citizens to engage in constructive, meaningful political discourse without resorting to disrespect or insults.
“As we go into the political season, there is nothing wrong with making your point. You have the right to disagree, but please, let us disagree respectfully without insulting anyone,” he said.
“We may not all see things from the same perspective, but we can express our views while ensuring that the peace we are enjoying continues.”
Speaking on the newly introduced Treasury Single Account (TSA) policy, the Governor called for the cooperation of Ministries, Departments, Agencies (MDAs), and citizens to ensure its effective implementation. He explained that the policy is designed to boost the state’s revenue profile, promote transparency and accountability.
He stressed that no government department is permitted to generate and spend revenue outside the TSA framework.
“One key thing we are doing is that Akwa Ibom State has now introduced the Treasury Single Account system, and all of us must make it work,” he stated.
“All government revenue must go into one single account. No ministry will generate and spend funds independently anymore. Revenue must go into the state’s common purse so it can be used for the good of all.”
Governor Eno further disclosed that the state has proposed a ₦1.5 trillion budget, emphasized the need for collective commitment to revenue generation to enable effective budget implementation.
“I commit myself to following the budget, and we must all commit ourselves towards ensuring that the funds come in,” he appealed.
The Governor also expressed appreciation to participants at the service, particularly the guest preacher, Apostle (Dr.) Joshua Selman, Founder and Senior Pastor of Eternity Network International, for honoring the state with his presence.
Preaching on the theme “The God of All Flesh,” drawn from Jeremiah 32:27 and Deuteronomy 8:14, Apostle Selman noted that the depth of a believer’s impact is determined by the depth of their knowledge of God.
He encouraged Christians to focus on God, rather than their challenges, describing Him as the God of all possibilities who opens closed doors.
He admonished believers to shun pride, embrace humility, and trust in God during difficult and uncertain times.
