Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno on Tuesday presented a ₦1.39 trillion budget estimate for the 2026 financial year to the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.
The proposal, tagged “The People’s Budget of Expansion and Growth,” represents a ₦260 billion (16%) decrease from the revised 2025 budget.
Governor Eno said the heavy investment in capital expenditure is to stimulate economic activities and fast-track development across the State.
He emphasized that the 2026 budget is citizens-driven, developed from needs assessments and inputs gathered during the statewide Town Square Meetings across all 10 federal constituencies.

Governor Eno assured lawmakers that the budget covers priority needs across all 31 local government areas, including model schools, healthcare centres, feeder roads, water schemes, electricity projects, and wet markets, all aimed at slowing rural-urban migration.
He noted that each Local Government Area has been assigned one specific project drawn from the Needs Documents submitted by stakeholders, with allocation details to be announced by the Budget Commissioner.
On agriculture, he highlighted ongoing efforts with 69,107 farmers benefitting from current initiatives; 13,060 registered farmers received processing machines and equipment while a new palm tree crop revolution is set for launch, targeting generational wealth creation.
Others are Relocation and renovation of AKADEP to the Office of the SSG, Procurement of tractors ahead of the tractor leasing company commissioning in December.
The Governor reaffirmed that all ongoing projects will be completed without borrowing.
He thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for removing the fuel subsidy, saying it has enabled states to access more funds for development.
Total capital receipts for 2026 are estimated at ₦1.035 trillion, comprising at ₦791.978 billion from the Consolidated Revenue Fund at ₦243.155 billion from other capital receipts
Speaker of the House, Elder Udeme Otong, commended the Governor for presenting a budget aligned with the ARISE Agenda, especially in agriculture, rural development, healthcare, SMEs, housing, and infrastructure.
He assured that the House will critically evaluate the proposal, ensure prudent allocation of resources, eliminate waste and duplication, and prioritize impactful projects
“Our aim is not merely to approve figures, but to ensure efficient allocation of resources and growth for our people.” The Speaker said.
He also thanked the Governor for his commitment to remodeling the Assembly complex.
