A small passenger aircraft carrying 15 people, including a Colombian lawmaker, crashed near the border with Venezuela on Wednesday, killing all passengers and crew, authorities confirmed.

The Beechcraft 1900 twin-propeller plane, operated by state airline Satena, took off from the border city of Cúcuta and lost contact with air traffic control shortly before it was due to land in Ocaña around noon local time (1700 GMT).

Colombia’s civil aviation authority confirmed: “There are no survivors.” The plane was carrying 13 passengers and 2 crew members.

Local parliamentarian Wilmer Carrillo expressed concern over the tragedy, noting that among those onboard were his colleagues Diogenes Quintero, a member of Colombia’s Chamber of Deputies, and Carlos Salcedo, a candidate in the upcoming elections.

Satena stated that the aircraft was scheduled to land at 12:05p.m. and confirmed that security and search protocols were immediately activated after losing contact with the plane.

Earlier reports had described the incident as a missing aircraft, but authorities later confirmed the crash and the death of all onboard.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
