No fewer than 10 persons have been killed in a road crash along the Jos–Bauchi Road in Plateau State.
The accident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, around 12:12am, involving four vehicles: two trailers and two Ford Galaxy minibuses.
Eyewitnesses said 10 people died on the spot, while several others sustained injuries, were evacuated to hospitals for treatment.
Confirming the incident, the Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Plateau State, Peter Longsan, said 10 adult men lost their lives in the crash.
In a statement, the FRSC said:
“Today, 23rd December 2025, FRSC Plateau State Sector Command carried out another rescue operation following a road traffic crash that occurred after the Military Checkpoint along Jos–Bauchi Road in the outskirts of Jos, the Plateau State Capital.
The crash occurred at about 12:12am.
It involved four vehicles, two trailers and two minibuses (Ford Galaxy). Nineteen people were involved: 17 males and two females.
Ten adult men died on the spot, while the injured victims were taken to General Hospital, Miango, Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), Jos, and Plateau State Specialist Hospital for medical attention.
Eight corpses of the deceased were deposited at Plateau Specialist Hospital and Bingham University Teaching Hospital morgues, while two of the corpses were claimed by officials of the NURTW for interment.”
The FRSC added that the rescue operation was conducted jointly by FRSC, Nigerian Police, Nigerian Military officers, and local villagers.
Preliminary investigations revealed that speeding and reckless driving, leading to loss of control, were major contributing factors.
The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Olajide Mogaji, appreciated those who promptly alerted authorities, urged motorists to avoid night journeys, excessive speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, or driving while fatigued, unwell.
Mogaji expressed sorrow over the crash, noting it occurred barely 12 days after eight University of Jos students were killed in a similar accident.
Tuesday’s accident marks the second major road crash in Plateau State within two weeks, following the earlier tragedy that claimed the lives of eight University of Jos students opposite Unity Bank on Zaria Road, Jos.
